$20,000 Raised For Local Charities At The 2010 Balsam Mountain Preserve Charity Classic
SYLVA, N.C. - Golfers helped raise $20,000 this week during the 2nd Annual Balsam Mountain Preserve Charity Classic.
In the second year of the tournament, fifty-two golfers participated on the Arnold Palmer Signature course. The daylong event, which also included a silent auction and reception, will benefit four charitable organizations that serve residents of Jackson County.
"It was a great day and great event for us," said Ken Costanzo, President, Balsam Mountain Preserve. "Not only did the golfers get the opportunity to play our spectacular course, but they were able to support local charities and the really important work they do in our communities. We are proud of our success in raising $50,000 in the first two years of the event and we look forward to doing it again next year."
The Community Table, which has been providing nutritious meals to Jackson County residents in need since 1999, is one of the four local charities to benefit from the tournament.
"The Community Table and Jackson Neighbors In Need are grateful to Balsam Mountain Preserve and all the sponsors and participants for another successful event this year. These two charitable organizations could not carry out their missions without caring, generous neighbors like these, especially in such difficult times. Thank you so much to everyone, and I hope to see you all again next year at the Third Annual Balsam Mountain Preserve Charity Classic," said Amy Grimes, Executive Director, The Community Table and Board Member, Jackson Neighbors In Need.
Other charities supported by the golf tournament are:
-The Jackson Neighbors In Need Save the Warmth program, which provides assistance with heating, food and water costs.
-The Balsam-Willets Ochre Hill Volunteer Fire Department, which serves Jackson County residents in fire calls, emergency calls, and as a first responder with WestCare.
-The Balsam Mountain Trust, a 501(c) (3) non-profit, which provides free environmental education programs to Jackson County schools while overseeing 3,000 acres of conservation easement land in Jackson County.
An anonymous donor was the title sponsor and named the event in memory of Samuel Belk Chapman.
The Balsam Mountain Preserve Golf Course was voted Best New Course in North Carolina 2008 by the North Carolina Golf Panel and ranked 11th nationally in Golf Digest's Best New Private Courses of 2008. For more information, call (828) 631-1009.
