Balsam Mountain Preserve’s building philosophy is based on the idea that the community will appeal to those who appreciate the wisdom which nature and history can impart. And so, we look to both to inform the architectural vocabulary. Thankfully, the expansive nature of the Preserve and siting of homesites mean that few if any residences are viewed from adjoining properties — allowing a variety of architectural styles to happily coexist, even as nearby neighbors.
The Balsam Mountain Preserve Design Guidelines include design principles on both landscape and architecture with the intention of minimizing the impact to the land through thoughtful selection of form, materials, and positioning on the site. Home designs are always for a specific site and represent a simple sophistication that is ageless. Architectural styles may include characteristics of the heritage found in the Western North Carolina mountains. Examples may include Rustic Park, Craftsman/Cottage, and Adirondack Camp style architecture, making them compatible to the mountain setting. New trends to mountain modern designs are popular.
Balsam has curated a guild of talented building trades professionals — from architects to contractors to interior designers. These firms have established reputations for both the integrity of their process and the quality of their work. Moreover, all make the design and construction process fun and as effortless as possible — which is how it should be. They also are experienced in working with owners who are building from afar, which is a priceless contribution as one’s dream home takes shape.
The Balsam sales team can assist with the appropriate referrals that fit the personality of both the owners and prospects.
To inspire and intrigue, some of our favorite architects have shared photography from recent custom projects. As a group, all are familiar with both Balsam architectural guidelines and the special considerations for residences in our region. Enjoy!
